Accentuate Staffing is currently recruiting for a Payroll Manager to join an established team in Durham. The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll administration. Reporting directly to the CFO, this position plays a key leadership role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees—full-time, part-time, and temporary. The Payroll Manager will manage internal payroll operations and serve as the primary liaison with external vendors and regulatory agencies. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with deep knowledge of payroll systems and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and administer all payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Maintain and update employee records in the payroll system, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and benefit deductions.
  • Coordinate biweekly payroll processing, including input of hours worked, issuance of manual and voided checks, and proper departmental classifications.
  • Prepare and deliver payroll reports on a biweekly, monthly, and quarterly basis for the CFO, HR, Benefits, and Finance teams.
  • Supervise payroll staff to ensure timely and accurate payroll execution and adherence to deadlines.
  • Monitor and manage tax reporting and payments, handle unemployment claims and employment verification requests.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with external vendors and government agencies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing payroll in a multi-state environment.
  • Strong proficiency with payroll systems; experience with Paycor is preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of payroll-related laws and regulations, including ACA compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Human Resources, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation, or willingness to obtain within the first year, is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost integrity.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to resolve payroll issues professionally and efficiently.
