Accentuate Staffing is seeking an Assistant Controller for our well-established, family friendly client in Raleigh, NC 27603.  The ideal candidate will have Construction or Manufacturing Industry experience or looking to transition from Public to Private Industry.   Reporting to the corporate Controller, this role is a great opportunity to grow and learn and will provide exposure to virtually all aspects of the accounting department.  There is opportunity for advancement to controller as the assistant controller proves capable and takes on more responsibilities. The role will also involve overseeing and reviewing the work of other accounting team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Review/approve weekly A/P invoices.
  • Review/approve Wires/ACHs/Manual Check payments.
  • Review/approve office supplies orders.
  • Research and advise on various tax matters including income, payroll, S&U, business property, etc.
  • Assist with preparation of various governmental filings (SAM renewal, government census, etc.)
  • Assist with maintaining owner/lender notes payable and amortization schedules.
  • Assisting with “directing traffic” of one-off questions/inquiries from those outside of Accounting to the appropriate Accounting person.
  • Assist with special and ad hoc accounting and finance projects when requested.
  • Collaborate with Controller to develop, record, and implement departmental policies and procedures, ensure compliance, and adjust as needed.
  • Lead year-end financial reporting process: providing requested documents to, and answering inquiries from, external CPA firm and updating financial statement footnotes.
  • Assist with preparation annual corporate budget (combined and individual cost centers)
  • Assist with preparation of annual labor burden calculation.
  • Assist with producing monthly/quarterly/yearly internal financial statements.
  • Assist with quarterly review of general ledger.
  • Assist with projected cost reviews.
  • Assist with answering pre-qualification questions from Estimating.
  • Assist with evaluating various software or other products/services to improve the accounting department’s processing efficiency.
  • Assist with preparing/posting/reviewing various journal entries to the General Ledger
  • Assist with ESOP compliance, reporting, communications, etc.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Construction Industry experience desired
  • Minimum of 2+ years of public accounting experience or 3+ years in private industry, and must already be functioning as a Senior Accountant.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (must be proficient in VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and advanced organizational skills.
  • Employ problem-solving skills and analysis and bring solutions to the Controller/CFO.
  • A positive team player with initiative to take on additional job responsibilities.
  • Advanced organization and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and possess high-level multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations and respond to changes in priorities.
  • Ability to interpret and handle large amounts of data.  Familiarity with creating and using database queries a plus.
  • Familiar with accounting processes and procedures with an eye toward efficiency.
